Resident Highlight- Maynard Hesselbarth
Local Social Worker honored for Lifetime Achievement by the CO Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers!
The Colorado Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, celebrating National Social Work Month, presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to Maynard Hesselbarth, LCSW, at a reception at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Denver, on March 5. Hesselbarth, who currently resides at The Fountains Assisted and Independent Living Community, was nominated by Wendy Tompkins, LCSW, who cited his long career working as a therapist, supervisor, Social Services Director, volunteer, and advocate for children and families of different cultural, economic, and challenged backgrounds.
Mr. Hesselbarth was born in Abilene, Kansas and received his Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas in 1949. In addition to working in multiple agencies over the years, he has been active in his church and in community activities as a member of the Rotary Club and Lions Club and as a tutor in literacy programs. After moving to Grand Junction to retire, he worked as a tutor with the Mesa Co. Library and a volunteer with School Dist. #51. In 2000 when his wife became ill and needed additional health services, he returned to his career to help with expenses, this time as a therapist at the Alpha Center where he now works part time.
He was honored locally at a luncheon meeting of the Western Region members of NASW/CO on March 25 at Ariel Clinical Services.
Maynard is currently a resident of The Fountains, Hilltop’s premier assisted and independent living community.
